The Joy of Harem Trousers

For ages Georgina has been trying to persuade me to purchase a pair of Harem trousers, I was always unsure as I didn't think there shape would suit me. However I found a pair (Available here) and I have not looked back since. They have a more tailored shape then the jersey style Harem trousers which means that they still look smart as well as being on trend.  However their shape means also means ultimate comfort. Dream! I hate to admit it but Georgie was completely right!

Only problem is that now I seem to have a increasing clothes wish list as I feel my Harem Trouser collection needs to grow.

Available here

These are next on my list for Holiday fun, and below some which look super comfortable, for 'I must eat everything' days!

Available here

So if you haven't taken the Harem plunge yet then go for it! Theres a variation to flatter every shape and size, you won't regret it!

GIRLS

So i'm probably a little slow to jump on the bandwagon...as per usual, and this post isn't so much for the men in the audience. However, one of the things i'm particularly loving at the moment is the HBO show Girls.

At first I must admit, it took me a while to get into, but after the first two episodes I realised how amazingly funny and how scarily relatable the show is. I was hooked. It's one of those shows that because each episode is only 20 or so minutes long you don't realise that you've ended up watching an entire season in a day..oops.

The characters in the show although it's based in New York, hold traits that I can see in almost every female I know and this is what makes it good, that, and a true representation of life's awkward moments. Lena Dunham the creator and star within the show is not afraid to take a close look at the generation we've become and is not afraid to take the piss.

I have a feeling this is a love it or hate it type of show but either way, you can't deny that you probably know someone like these characters. At the moment I know this show is on certain sky channels and I probably shouldn't be promoting streaming, but you should definitely give it a watch.

Haim

After catching a snippet of Haim's new song 'Falling' on Radio One the other day I quickly scrawled down their name and haven't stopped playing them since.

Some say that there sound is reminiscent of the stylings of Fleetwood Mac and I also think they have a similar feel to the fantastic band The Jezebels (Check them out if you haven't heard of them). Theres a definite 80's vibe going on which I love.

Winners of BBC sound of 2013 Haim are in for big things this year. So check them out!

A reflective look at Seduced by Art

Bit late, but as we both really enjoyed this exhibition last year we thought that we'd write up about it. Better late than never...

'Seduced by Art' looked at the links between photography and painting, exploring how photographic practitioners draw upon themes and traditions from the old masters. The exhibition was broken down into 6 rooms - Setting the Scene, Portraits, The Figure, Tableaux, Still Life and Landscape. Paintings and photographs were placed together to show the correlation between the two.

A few particular photographers caught our eye, some we knew and others not so familiar.
The first was a very well known photographer to us, Tom Hunter.

Tom Hunter's photograph, 'Death of Coltelli' was in the first room of the exhibition presented next to the work of Jeff Wall. With a spotlight aimed directly onto it, and in the low light surroundings, the naked skin of the woman gave the print an appearance of a light box.

Next on our list of favourites was the work of Richard Learoyd, whose image 'Man with Octopus Tattoo, 2011' became the memorable cover for the exhibition. As we are both interested in portraiture we found this an interesting take on the genre. The man's face is never revealed but still a sense of personality is shown. The image becomes revealing in its lack of facial identification. And, Learoyd's process interests us as he uses and unconventional method of using a camera obscura directly onto photographic paper.
,

This video piece visually describes the process in creating the painting it aims to represent. We see the constructed piece in sped up time with the added humour of a cheeky wink at the end.

So overall the exhibition has inspired both of us and re-ignited our appreciation for paintings, inspiration that we hope to carry forward within our own work.

All images found through google image search.

Best Laid Plans...

So university life got the better of us and with coursework and deadlines, blogging kind of went out the window. With 50% of our degree handed in we can now begin to focus on getting the ball rolling.

In coming weeks we will be posting odd titbits of things that we're doing alongside our university work...to keep us sane.

Watch this space..audience of no one.
